4 Reasons Why Your Season Tickets Aren’t Selling

Sometimes, your season tickets will sell quickly—just hours or days after listing. Other times, it may be several weeks, or even months, depending on when you listed them.

Why do some tickets sell quickly while others struggle to find a buyer?

There are common reasons season tickets may have a harder time getting sold, but the good news is that there are things you can do to increase the chance of a sale.

1. Your tickets are priced too high.

This probably goes without saying, but if you’ve priced your tickets higher than any other seats in your section, the likelihood of someone purchasing your tickets over others is rather low.

Before listing your tickets, research what similar tickets are listed for and price your tickets comparatively. Then revisit the price regularly as the event gets closer. Monitor pricing changes to ensure your asking price aligns with demand and market conditions.

When in doubt, ask yourself, “Would I buy these tickets at this price?” If not, you may want to consider lowering your price a bit.

A special note about pricing: While it can be disappointing to sell your tickets for less than you paid for them, sometimes that’s the best path. If you know for certain that you can’t use the tickets or give them to a friend, don’t be afraid to reduce the price to below face value. Something is always better than nothing because once the event has passed, the ticket will be worthless anyway.

2. The event is not in high demand.

One of the biggest contributing factors to ticket demand is who the opposing team is. While big rivalries can result in fast sales and top dollar for your tickets, other match-ups may be less desirable. And low demand for tickets leads to higher supply (i.e. more competition for the tickets you’re trying to sell.)

Keep non-conference games or lower match-ups in mind when pricing your tickets to help compensate for the lower demand.

Additional factors that can negatively influence demand are weekday events, other conflicting events in the area, and fan fatigue from several consecutive home games.

3. The event is too far out.

Die-hard fans may be looking to purchase tickets early in the season to preferred games and willing to pay more to secure their seat. However, many sports fans make last-minute decisions on attendance. As a result, tickets to sporting events are most often purchased closer to the event day, rather than weeks or months prior.

If you’ve listed your tickets but they haven’t sold yet, it could just be that the event is still too far out. We have found that 72 hours before an event is when buying demand is often the highest. Be sure to evaluate and adjust your list price in this time frame so your tickets have the best chance of selling.

4. You’re not reaching the right audience.

Geography and demographics come into play when listing tickets on individual marketplaces. A marketplace may be more popular in one region than another or can be preferred over others on a team-by-team basis.

Determining the right platform to list your tickets and reach buyers can take time and effort. But, manually listing across marketplaces to reach a larger audience is risky and time-consuming.

This is why so many season ticket holders choose to list tickets through FlipSeats.

When you sell tickets through FlipSeats, your listing will automatically be pushed out to all major marketplaces. It’s the easiest and safest way to get your tickets on all marketplaces simultaneously, all from the convenience of one app. More visibility leads to higher sale potential because you’re not limited to the audience of just one marketplace.

Once you’ve listed your tickets, it can be frustrating if they don’t sell right away.

However, if you list your single-game season tickets with FlipSeats and follow this guide, you will have a much greater chance of offloading your tickets and putting some money back into your pocket.
